How to send a standard or text-only SMS

Mobiz offers its clients the option to send standard SMS campaigns, these SMSs are text-only and do not contain a link to a mobile landing page. These SMSs are useful when sending simple messages such as reminders, follow-up engagements, or bulk discounts that don’t require visual elements or personalized content.

Below, we’ll take you through the easy steps to set up and send a standard SMS campaign.

Step 1: Create a new campaign

From your dashboard, click the New campaign button on the campaign dashboard.

Step 2: Select your sending preference

In order to send a standard SMS campaign, please click Get started on the Send with us card.

Step 3: Skip templates

Because you’re not sending a landing page, you can quickly skip the template selection page by clicking the Skip template, just send SMS button.

Once clicked, a pop-up will appear to confirm your decision. It will also inform you that you are able to add a landing page at a later stage by navigating back to the Design step.

In this step, your campaign will be auto-assigned a name, you can edit the name in the top left corner by clicking the text that reads Untitled campaign.

Step 4: Compose your SMS

Greet your customers in your SMS with a personal touch using our personalization tool. You can tailor campaigns by clicking the personalization button on the right side of the text input and selecting from a list of tags.

Top tip: Add a default value as a placeholder in case a customer in your database is missing data. For example, for customers without a known first name, “Hi ##{{first_name}}” can display as “Hi there” when setting a default.

Your SMS copy has a character limit of 160, but there’s plenty of room to get creative. If you need a few extra characters, don’t worry, Mobiz allows up to 306. However please be aware you will be charged an extra SMS credit for exceeding 160.

Please note: SMS uses GSM-encoded characters, and due to this, our platform will automatically convert any non-GSM-encoded characters within your SMS copy. This may result in some of your special characters appearing differently.

  1. We do this to ensure your characters do not take up more of your available characters than necessary.

  2. This may also result in any hyperlinks being removed from your text.

  3. Please view this table for a list of characters that are replaced by our platform.

👋 Use our emoji button to easily add emojis to your SMS to capture your customers' attention. Adding emojis will use extra characters so use them sparingly and keep an eye on your character count.

Step 5: Select your audience

You can select All contacts or choose the specific lists you’d like to send your campaign to.

If you haven’t set up any lists yet, you can learn how to in our Creating lists and assigning contacts article.

Step 6: Review your SMS campaign

From here you can see an overview as well as send yourself or your team a test SMS to ensure you’re happy before sending it to your audience.

Step 7: Get sending

Send your campaign to your audience and visit (and revisit) your analytics report to see your campaign results in real-time.
